Giving it a twirl: Young dancers prepare for St. George Greek Oktoberfest

They’re young, cute and excited about twirling their way into the hearts of a large, captive audience.

St. George’s Junior Dance Troupe — featuring children ages 4 to 13 — will perform five Greek dances, including the kalamatiano, traditionally performed at large gatherings, in its debut performance at the eighth annual St. George Greek Oktoberfest set for Oct. 6 through 9 at the St. George Cultural Center, 364 First St. SE.

As part of new directions in 21st century learning (and with the support and encouragement of Simon Fraser University and the Vancouver Learning Network), the Hellenic Community Greek school will introduce “blended” learning in the classrooms this 2011-12 year. In essence, blended courses draw from the best of online and face-to-face instruction.

Ιερά Μητρόπολις Ταμασού, Κύπρου.

Με τις ευλογίες του Πανιερωτάτου Μητροπολίτου Ταμασού και Ορεινής κ. Ησαΐου, θα μεταφερθεί στην Κύπρο από την Ιερά Μονή Αγίου Γεωργίου Ηλίων Ευβοίας η Τίμια Κάρα της Αγίας Μεγαλομάρτυρος Μαρίνης και θα εκτεθεί σε προσκύνημα από τους πιστούς στον ιερό ναό Αγίας Μαρίνης στον Αναλυόντα.

Η επίσημη υποδοχή θα γίνει από τον Πανιερώτατο Μητροπολίτη Ταμασού κ. Ησαΐα την ερχόμενη Τετάρτη, 28 Σεπτεμβρίου 2011 και ώρα 6.00 μ.μ., στην Πλατεία της Κοινότητας Αναλυόντα και, στη συνέχεια, θα μεταφερθεί στο νεόδμητο ναό της Αγίας Μαρίνης, όπου και θα παραμείνει μέχρι και την Κυριακή, 2 Οκτωβρίου.

Ο ναός θα παραμένει ανοικτός καθημερινά από τις 6.30 το πρωί μέχρι και τις 10.00 το βράδυ.

St. George’s Greek Ortho­dox Church has been putting on their annual Gre­cian Fes­ti­val for, like, ever. It always falls the first full week­end of Octo­ber (and in 2011 started Sep­tem­ber 30, so appar­ently Fri­day doesn’t count as “the weekend”).

Η Ιερά Μονή Αγίου Νεοφύτου εόρτασε την εύρεση και την ανακομιδή του τιμίου λειψάνου του κτήτορα και προστάτη της Μονής, Οσίου και Θεοφόρου Πατρός ημών Νεοφύτου του Εγκλείστου και θαυματουργού.

Την  Τρίτη, 27 Σεπτεμβρίου, το εσπέρας τελέστηκε Μέγας Πανηγυρικός Εσπερινός, στον οποίο χοροστάτησε ο Σεβασμιώτατος Μητροπολίτης Κορωνείας κ. Παντελεήμων και έγινε λιτάνευση των τιμίων λειψάνων του Αγίου. 

Την επομένη μέρα, Τετάρτη 28 Σεπτεμβρίου, έγινε αρχιερατική θεία Λειτουργία, της οποίας προέστη ο Μακαριώτατος Αρχιεπίσκοπος Κύπρου κ. κ. Χρυσόστομος, συμπαραστατούμενος από τους Μητροπολίτες Πάφου κ. Γεώργιο, Κορωνίας κ. Παντελεήμονα, Ναυκράτιδος κ. Κύριλλο, και τους Επισκόπους Αρσινόης κ. Νεκτάριο, Χύτρων κ. Λεόντιο και Μεσαορίας κ. Γρηγόριο.

Moscow to celebrate Jewish New Year

Moscow, September 28, Interfax - The festivities on the occasion of the Jewish New Year (Rosh Hashanah) will begin at the Moscow Jewish Community Center on the evening of September 28.

Everyone "in this world has a special mission, for the accomplishment of which God gave everyone special talents and special capabilities," Russia's chief rabbi Berel Lazar told the believers.

According to the Jewish calendar, the coming year is 5772.

The Jewish New Year celebrations last for two days. This holiday is also considered a day of judgment, when God considers people's deeds and decides everyone's fate for the new year.

At home, believers organize a festive table and a ritual of food blessing (Kiddush), which starts with bread and honey, and not with the usual bread and salt. After the Kiddush they say a blessing for fruits and eat apples, soaking them in honey. Then the Jews recite a prayer: " May it be Your will, Lord our God and God of our ancestors that you renew for us a good and sweet year."

ΧΛΙΑΡΟΙ ΚΑΙ ΕΜΕΤΙΚΟΙ

ΟΙ ΑΝΘΡΩΠΟΙ της εποχής μας εύκολα συμβιβάζονται με ό,τι προβάλλεται ως σύγχρονο, μοντέρνο και προοδευτικό, γιατί πιστεύουν ότι έτσι θα κάνουν τη ζωή τους πιό ευχάριστη.

Δεν έχουν ηθικές αρχές και δέν αντιδρούν. Είναι παθητικοί αποδέκτες των όσων οι επιτήδειοι προτείνουν, αδιαφορώντας αν πολλά από αυτά είναι ηθικά και θεάρεαστα.

Την ίδια περίπου νοοτροπία έχουν και οι περισσότεροι χριστιανοί! Ενώ δέχονται τη διδασκαλία του Χριστού και θεωρούν την Εκκλησία Του κιβωτό σωτηρίας, παραμένουν συμβιβασμένοι με το κυριαρχούν κοσμικό φρόνημα, γεγονός που αποκαλύπτει ότι η

χριστιανική τους ιδιότητα πολύ λίγο τους επηρεάζει. Γι᾽ αυτό και είναι ιδιαίτερα επίκαιροι οι φοβεροί λόγοι της Αποκαλύψεως προς τον Επίσκοπο της Εκκλησίας της Λαοδικείας: «Οίδά σου τα έργα, ότι ούτε ψυχρός ει ούτε ζεστός· όφελον ψυχρός ης ή ζεστός.

Ούτως ότι χλιαρός ει, και ούτε ζεστός ούτε ψυχρός, μέλλω σε εμέσαι εκ του στόματός μου»(γ´ 15-16 ). Δηλαδή, ξέρω καλά τα έργα σου: δεν είσαι ούτε κρύος ούτε ζεστός. Μακάρι να ήσουν κρύος ή ζεστός! Επειδή όμως δεν είσαι ούτε κρύος ούτε ζεστός αλλά

χλιαρός, γι᾽ αυτό θα σε ξεράσω από το στόμα μου.

Οι χλιαροί χριστιανοί αποτελούν τη μεγάλη πλειοψηφία και αυτό είναι πολύ ανησυχητικό. Δυστυχώς και στούς κληρικούς το ίδιο συμβαίνει.

Στο Αγιον Ορος ο Πρωθυπουργός

Όπως διαβεβαίωσε στο agioritikovima.gr ο διευθυντής του γραφείου τύπου του πρωθυπουργού κ. Γιώργος Ελενόπουλος, ο πρωθυπουργός κ. Γιώργος Παπανδρέου θα βρίσκεται την Κυριακή 9 Οκτωβρίου στο Άγιον Όρος προκειμένου να παραστεί στις εκδηλώσεις που πρόκειται να γίνουν προς τιμήν του Πατριάρχη κ. Βαρθολομαίου, με αφορμή τη συμπλήρωση 20 χρόνων από την ανάρρησή του στο θρόνο της Κωνσταντινούπολης.Μεταξύ άλλων,ο κ. Παπανδρέου,το πρωϊ της Κυριακής θα παρακολουθήσει την θεία λειτουργία που θα γίνει στον Ιστορικό Ναό του Πρωτάτου στην πρωτεύσουσα του Αγίου Όρους,στις Καρυές, χοροστατούντος του Οικουμενικού Πατριάρχη Βαρθολομαίου.

Patriarch Kirill's visit to Moldova to be cut short at doctors' recommendation

 Chisinau/Moscow, September 28, Interfax - Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia will cut his visit to Moldova by two days at his doctors' recommendation, Secretary of the Moldovan Metropolis of the Russian Orthodox Church Archpriest Vadim Cheibas told Interfax.

The Patriarchy has confirmed this information.

The duration of the Patriarch's visit to Moldova will be shortened "at the strong recommendation of the doctors who insist on relaxing the working schedule of the Holy Patriarch," a source from the Patriarchy told Interfax-Religion on Wednesday.

"Nevertheless, the Patriarch is firmly intent on visiting all of the dioceses in Moldova within a fairly short period of time and on talking to the Moldovan clergy and flock in all parts of the country," he said.

Serbian Orthodox Church

His Eminence Amfilohije Archbishop of Cetinje and Metropolitan of Montenegro and the Littoral served yesterday, on the Feast of the Cross, the Divine Liturgy in the church of the Holy Cross in the Upper monastery of Ostrog, on the occasion of the Patron Saint's Day of the church. He was concelebrated by priests and monks from Montenegro, Kosovo and Metohija, Belgrade and Bosnia and Herzegovina.
During the Liturgy pupils of the Seminary of Peter of Cetinje (Cetinje) chanted.

After believers partook the Holy Communion, at the plateau in front of the church of the Honorable Cross Metropolitan blessed the slava cake and held a feast day's sermon.

Metropolitan Amfilohije then in the church of the Presentation of the Most Holy Theotokos, in which the relics of Saint Basil of Ostrog rest, handed over gifts for the church of St. Basil of Ostrog in Leposavic.
