The Press Office of the Romanian Patriarchate informs us:

Sunday, 9 October 2011, 8.30 hours, His Beatitude Patriarch Daniel and His Beatitude Krystoph of the Orthodox Church of the Czech Republic – Slovakia will consecrate the church built in the memory of over 40,000 Romanian soldiers who sacrificed their lives to liberate Czechoslovakia from under the Nazi occupation during the World War II.

The foundation stone of the church dedicated to the Ascension of the Lord – Day of the Heroes and to Saint Martyr Valentin was consecrated by the worthy remembering Patriarch Teoctist of Romania and by His Beatitude Metropolitan Krystoph of the Czech Republic and Slovakia, on 14 July 2007.


The wooden church worked in Maramureşan style by the carpenters from Bârsana – Maramureş was purchased by the Romanian Patriarchate in 2010, with the support of the Department for the Romanians from Everywhere of the Romanian Government and situated in the plot of land offered by the city hall of Most city. In 2011, in summer, the church was fitted up inside, namely the walls covered with spruce fir wood, the marble Holy Table set, the entire space paved with parquet, the dome of the holy altar painted and the oak wood altar screen worked at the Workshops of the Romanian Patriarchate set. The Romanian Patriarchate endowed the church with 9 pews, 2 hierarchic thrones, a holy cross, 42 painted crosses, 3 chandeliers and the vessels of rite needed for the religious services. A road-side shrine was set outside the place of worship as well as two big entrance gates carved in oak wood.


After the consecration service at 10.00 o’clock, His Beatitude Patriarch Daniel of Romania and His Beatitude Metropolitan Krystoph of the Czech Republic and Slovakia will celebrate the Divine Liturgy assisted by a group of hierarchs, priests and deacons from Romania, Czech Republic and Slovakia. To end with the Divine Liturgy, a remembrance service will be celebrated for the Romanian heroes who sacrificed their lives for the liberation of the territories of the Czech Republic and Slovakia from under the Nazi occupation.


Representatives of the Romanian State, of the Romanian Embassy in Prague, of the National Association of the Militaries in reserve and retired and of the local authorities of Most city will be also present.


Monday, 10 October 2011, in the morning, the Patriarch of Romania will meet state officials of the Czech Republic.
