Dear Friends,
With joy we extend an invitation to you to join us for our annual
EFOM Missions Lecture at Hellenic College - Holy Cross at 7:00pm on
Thursday, November 8th. The topic will be “MISSION
TO GUATEMALA: Receiving the Mayan People into the Orthodox Church.”
Please see the attached flier with more detail. We have two exciting speakers –
Fr. John Chakos and Fr. Andres Giron.
Fr. John Chakos is the former priest
of Holy Cross Greek Orthodox Church in Pittsburgh, who retired after 31 years
in order to go to Guatemala and help establish the first Orthodox Seminary in
Latin America, as well as to work with Fr. Andres Giron, a Guatemalan priest
who is leading a group of 100,000 Mayan People into the Orthodox Church.
Fr. Andres Giron is a former UN
Ambassador, Guatemalan Senator, and Presidential candidate, who had devoted his
life to alleviating the sufferings of the poor and underprivileged, especially
among the Mayan Indians. He is now an Orthodox priest who came under the
Ecumenical Patriarchate in 2010, and is now spiritual leader this group of
100,000 Mayans who are interested in entering into canonical Orthodoxy.
Both will be speaking at 7:00pm on Thursday, November 8th
at the Maliotis Center at HCHC.
With love in Christ,
+ Fr. Luke Veronis
