October 10, 2011
CUMMING, Ga. – Saints Raphael, Nicholas and Irene Greek Orthodox Church of Cumming announced its annual Greek Festival, which will take place from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. on Oct. 15 and 11 a.m. until 7 p.m. Oct.16.

The festival site and church property are located at 3074 Bethelview Road in Cumming.
An entertaining Greek village will be found on the 15-acre church property in south Forsyth County. The scent and sounds of authentic Greek food and music will fill the air, creating a festive atmosphere. The event offers visitors a unique opportunity to share in the rich history of the Greek culture and its beautiful traditions.

Period-costumed Hellenic Dancers will perform various traditional Greek dances throughout the two-day event.

Shops with art, jewelry and other Aegean items will compliment the culinary offerings and entertainment.

A very fun kids play area will also be in the park-like setting.

Traditional village cuisine will be served at the Greek restaurant, or Taverna. Wonderful souvlaki (soov-ly-kee), pastitsio (past-eet-sio), gyros (ye-rrr-ohs) and other authentic food is also on the full menu. Traditional Greek coffee and liqueurs may be found at the Kafenion (cafe-neon).

At another shop in the village, delicious, better than doughnuts, Loukoumades (loo-koo-mah-dez) will be cooked in front of visitors, then hand-dipped in honey. Festival pastries, including baklava (honey, clarified butter, puffed pastry layers) and much more will be explained and available in one of the many outdoor shops.

New this year is a drive-through food service for those on the go.

The Saints Raphael, Nicholas and Irene Greek Orthodox Church of Cumming has more than 100 families in its community. It is a Christian church, a Canonical Greek Orthodox Mission Parish of the Greek Orthodox Diocese of Atlanta Under Patronage of Saints Raphael, Nicholas and Irene.
