AUGUST FAST FOR THE FEAST OF THE DORMITION OF THE MOTHER OF GOD

Dear Parishioners and friends of St Ioannis, Parramatta

As you know, the first 2 weeks of August are a very holy time of the year, devoted to Panagia, the Mother of God, whose feast we celebrate on 15 August.   During these 2 weeks we are encouraged to reflect,  prepare for Holy Communion with repentance and Confession, pray earnestly, etc.  It is also a time of fasting.  In our Church, every weekday evening, 6 – 7pm, we have a Supplication Service (Parakysis) to the Mother of God (except for Wednesday 5^th August because that evening there will be a vespers service at the Church of the Transfiguration in Earlwood, and on 14^th August, the eve of the great feast of the Dormition, we will have at our Church vespers and then the service of Holy  Unction).
