The Synod of the Orthodox Church of Moldova met on the 20th of June 2013 at the Metropolitan Administration.
The meeting was chaired by
His Eminence Metropolitan Vladimir. The archpastors discussed a set of issues of
major importance for the Moldovan society, including the Government’s insistent
promotion of anti-Christian and immoral bills, in defiance of the nation’s
traditional moral values. The Declaration of the Synod was approved, expressing
concern for the state’s tendency to legalize immoral and socially and
spiritually harmful behaviours.
It has been stated that under the mask of human rights promotion, the Moldovan authorities have been methodically defying the Moldovan people’s values, and supported depravity, sin, and sexual immorality, protecting the pretended rights of so-called sexual minorities.
”All these makes us conclude that in the recent years, the Orthodox Church of Moldova and the Christians making circa 93,4% of the country’s total population have been excluded from the Government’s plans, in favour of non-traditional minorities that, regretfully, very easily obtain the support of many of our brothers, although many of them pretend to be true pastors, and not paid shepherds”.
The Declaration that will be submitted to the state authorities warns the Government that in case if the anti-discrimination law is not amended so as to exclude any special protection of sexual minorities and, and to include a ban on the promotion of immoral behaviour and its propaganda, then the Church reserves its canonical right to excommunicate members of the Government. This may initially include prohibition for them to participate in the Eucharist, and if they do not repent, even lead to total exclusion from any church activity.
“At the same time, the Church reserves its right to take all canonical measures in order to protect the majority Christian population from the danger of spread of spiritual death in our society. Thus:
1. We initiate preparing for the calling of the General Assembly of the worshipers from the Metropolis of Moldova, where the entire Moldovan Church will express opinion on the new challenges faced by the Church
2. The Synod blesses the Christians to engage in a Cross Procession (on foot) around the country Between 02 August and 21 September. This will be a Procession of repentance for the entire nation, with litany for forgiveness and victory over seen and unseen enemy”, states the Synod Declaration.
