Patriarch Kirill: Church can't compete with TV and PC on the power of influence

Kaliningrad, October 14, Interfax - Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia regrets that young people today are subjected to "the strongest outside pressing which imposes anti-Christian atheistic life style."

"Our people in average spend from four to seven hours before TV-sets or computers. How much time do they spend in church? At the best, two hours a week. As to the influence on human conscience, is it comparable to everything that we do - to our Sunday schools, websites, diocesan departments, parishes? It is incommensurable scale," the Patriarch said on Thursday at the Kaliningrad Diocese meeting.

He urged to be more attentive and protective with people who come to church.

According to him, parishes should become communities of believers with many children and young people. "If we loose time we'll loose our parishes or they will turn to the parishes of old women as in Soviet times," the Patriarch warned priests.
