Serbian Patriarch calls for unity in defence of Kosovo and Metohija

16/9/2011
Serbian Patriarch Irinej urged this evening in Kosovska Mitrovica for unity of the Serbian people in the defense of Kosovo and Metohija.

He pointed out, after he had served a public prayer meeting for the salvation of the Serbian people, with the concelebration of bishops, in the church of St. Dimitry in Kosovska Mitrovica, that the Serbian people in Kosovo and Metohija found itself in a great temptation and suffering.
He stressed that in whole Serbia tonight at 6 pm the Orthodox Serbian people came to churches to pray and ask for the help in the time of suffering.
„We have never suffered like this, we have not been left to evil as the past few decades”, he pointed out in his address to the believers in the full church.
The Patriarch reminded that many left their homes and lives in Kosovo and Metohija, and that organs were taken away while they were being live.
„The world sees that, but pretend not to see”, said the head of the Serbian Orthodox Church expressing his hope that the God sees that.
„We experienced that something that is most sacred to us is taken from us. Serbia has not more holier land than Kosovo and Metohija. We need to be united, to be unique, because each division leads to a collapse. We have to be unique in that to restore the Christian faith”, he said.
Patriarch Irinej called the believers to remain in Kosovo and Metohija.
„If you suffer you know why. That is not in vain that is the defense of the holy martyrdom and the holy land”, the head of the Serbian Orthodox Church concluded.
